　　1. Heat Resistance

Whereas the melting point of iron is 1540'C, graphite sublimates at 3550'C. This tells graphite is significantly heat-resistant enough to withstand the twice higher temperature compared to iron.
　　2. Ultra-Light

Bulk density is 1.8 - 2.0. Graphite is still lighter than glass in a same size.
　　3. Higher Strength at Higher Temperature

There is a unique property in graphite. Unlike many metallic materials, strength of graphite increases along with its temperature (under non-oxidizing atmosphere, below 2500'C) up to twice the normal strength. So graphite is an indispensable material at high temperature applications.
　　4. Low Thermal Expansion

Compared with many metallic materials, thermal expansion of graphite is extremely small. Graphite can maintain its dimension accuracy even it is used at a high temperature.
　　5. Good Thermal Conductivity

In addition to the low thermal expansion, graphite has a good thermal conductivity.This is why graphite has an extremely high "thermal shock resistance" (which allows it to withstand sudden changes in temperature).
6. Good Electrical Conductivity

Owing to the relationship between the crystal structure and the atomic valence in graphite, it has free electrons (electrons move around without being bound to the nucleus) which give a very good electrical conductivity.
　　7. Self-Lubricating Property

When surface of one material is rubbed to another, there is friction and abrasion between them. Lubricants are used for many metallic materials to prevent them. On the other hand, graphite has self-lubricating property which brings in less friction and abrasion.
